Last week, Nintendo announced that the Virtual Console would be coming to the Nintendo e-Shop on the Wii U. This is great for a lot of the new players but what about us longtime Virtual Console users on the Wii? Nintendo first said that we’d have to re-buy Virtual Console games at a lowered price between $1 and $1.50. Although, we can’t access our save files on Virtual Console from the Wii data we transferred onto the new console.

It’s because you’re buying access to a whole new version of your Virtual Console favourite. The updated Wii U ones will have Miiverse integration, customizable controls and most importantly, GamePad-only support. You can still play Virtual Console games through the Wii Menu on the Wii U after transferring your data, but only on the television currently. Virtual Console will be coming in a system update later this spring.

Some better news, Nintendo also announced the list of the Virtual Console games you’ll be able to buy for $0.30 as a month long deal. You’ll be getting once a month, starting this month with Balloon Fight. Catch the list below:

  • January 23 – February 21: Balloon Fight
  • February 20 – March 21: F-Zero
  • March 20 – April 18: Punch Out! Featuring Mr. Dream
  • April 17 – May 16 : Kirby’s Adventure
  • May 17 – June 13: Super Metroid
  • June 12 – July 11: Yoshi
  • July 15 – August 13: Donkey Kong

Coming off from sites like XBLAFans, GameJudgment and TouchArcade, I'm looking to further extend my reach with the multiplatform news. I love all sorts of games from 2d side-scrollers to action/adventures set in fantasies or gothic nature like Castlevania. My 3 favourite games ever are Viewtiful Joe, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Chrono Trigger.
