A Facebook post from the official Guitar Hero page has announced today that all the downloadable songs for the Guitar Hero titles will be removed from their respective marketplaces (Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii) on March 31, 2014. This affects all titles from 2006’s Guitar Hero 2 up to 2010’s Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. The DJ Hero titles are affected as well.
The reason behind this is most likely due to song licenses expiring. Several downloadable songs from the Rock Band series were removed for the same reason. If you have already downloaded the songs, you’ll still be able to access them, and all online functionality will still operate as usual. But if there were any downloadable songs you wanted, you’d better get them before it’s too late.
As an extra incentive, certain songs and track packs will be available at 50% off until the end of the month, though specific songs/packs were not listed. Be sure to check the marketplace on your respective platform.
You may recall that the last pack of downloadable songs for the Guitar Hero series was released way back in April 2011, so it was very unlikely we’d see more. The franchise itself has also remained dormant, and though rumors of it resurfacing have been appearing since then, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
