Xbox One will have two types of updates: mandatory and optional

We’re less than two months away from the launch of the Xbox One and we’re still getting more interesting news on the subject. This little bit of news involves how we update games and there’s a couple of intersting ways.

Xbox Live boss Marc Whitten told OXM about a bunch of new details including 300 gamerpics at launch and the ability to create your own with full body poses.

But more interesting is how they apply updates. Here’s Marc Whitten’s direct quote:

“Content providers will have the ability to push two types of content updates with Xbox One: ones that are immediately mandatory like in Xbox 360 and ones that are optional. If you opt to not take an optional update, you can continue to play online and do the update at a later time.”

Remember when we sometimes couldn’t play an Xbox 360 game due to an update? Those days are now long behind us.
