Some games had attempted to integrate a solid morality system, but Infamous was the first to successfully pull off one that felt real. The ravaged Empire City had its own flavor as a site of utter devastation, and the way citizens would either rally around Cole or attack him based on his actions in the game was an extra-mile sort of touch. Performing more “evil” actions would cause Cole to start looking more haggard and sickly, while his lightning powers skew more towards damaging attacks and take on a dark red hue. On the other hand, “good” actions were accompanied by more healing-centric powers and blue lightning. All of this was complemented by a very polished traversal system that made scaling the city a breeze. This was the superhero franchise to beat this generation.
