When PopCap unleashed the first Plants vs. Zombies title on the world in the way-back time of 2009, it was met with an enormous amount of critical acclaim, which translated into a hefty amount of financial success – it turns out that an easy-to-play yet deeply strategic game with cutesy cartoon characters is an easy sell to both hardcore and casual crowds. It’s since been released on every gaming platform known to man.
2009 was a long time ago, however, and fans of the tower defense (well, backyard defense) title are rabid for news on the forthcoming sequel, due out in July. And judging by Plants vs. Zombies 2‘s first teaser trailer, PopCap knows it:

The trailer’s light on gameplay (see also: exactly zero), it does capture the general feeling feeling amongst fans of the game (see also: “Where’s my sequel already?”), with familiar Internet faces like Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb chiming in to rage about the fact that the game hasn’t hit yet. Some hint at what changes might be in store would’ve been nice, but with the game’s release so close it shouldn’t be too long before that information starts coming at a fast clip.
