Zenimax Online Studios is in a really tough position with The Elder Scrolls Online. Coming from a storied single-player series, they have to pull off a delicate balancing act between favored aspects of the franchise, and what makes a good MMORPG. One specific aspect fans wanted was the ability to play from a first-person perspective.
Early footage of first-person gameplay in The Elder Scrolls Online made it look extremely basic, with extreme limitations to combat. But, this looks to be changing. According to Destructoid, not only is the first-person mode developing,
it looked just like a classic Elder Scrolls game. It was fast, fluid, and extremely impressive, to the point where it looked like they were playing Oblivion or Skyrim at times.
According to Zenimax, this mode is currently playable, and will be available at launch. The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled to launch sometime this year for PC and Mac OSX.
