Literally nothing is known about Valve’s Source 2 engine at this time, besides a general tentative knowledge that it might be in the works. “Might” was the operative word for a while, but a recent tidbit may be a confirmation.
Recently-terminated Valve employee Tom Leonard recently updated his LinkedIn profile to reflect his recent work at Valve. As a senior game developer, the repertoire of entries seemed like a given: Half Life 2, Left 4 Dead, and so on. However, a new entry is what really should pique your interest. From November 2010 to February 2013, Leonard indicated that he was the Senior Developer for Source 2. Yes, that Source 2. Valve’s next engine. The foundation of all of their games is getting a new iteration, and it’s been in the works for at least 2 years. This could mean that an announcement is on the way, if it’s been in the works for this long.
So there it is: all-but-proof that Source 2 exists. Are you excited? You tech junkies out there can play around in the comments discussing the possibilities of Source 2, or you can visit our forums!
