The Booshka, a grenade launcher which fires bouncing explosives, has been announced for Gears of War: Judgment. This grenade launcher is presumably a power weapon (as most of the nifty weapons in Gears of War are) which fires grenades that ricochet off of walls and explode on a timer or on impact with enemies, resulting in a beautiful stream of gory giblets. How they’ll explain that this weapon existed earlier in the game’s canon but not in the later games is a mystery, but surely it’s Baird’s fault.

Epic Games, the game’s publishers, have for years surveyed innovation in the weapon department. While they were once known for creating zany weapons like a rifle which could fire balls or beams of death, and combine the two into an almost-insta-kill explosion, the Gears of War franchise is less suited to these zany weapons than Unreal Tournament is. However, it’s reassuring to see People Can Fly finding ways to put new weapons into the repertoire of the guns’d and armor’d out soldiers of the COG army that will provide distinctly different gameplay options.
Until now, The Boomshot has been the primary anti-cover explosive weapon in the game, but I feel this weapon is far better suited to the very angular design featured in most Gears of War competitive maps. Watch the video above to see it in action, or if it’s all quite self explanatory, check out the other new addition called The Breechshot.
