The Astronauts, a new development studio out of Warsaw, Poland, recently announced its first title. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is said to be influenced by weird fiction from the early 20th century, namely H.P. Lovecraft and the sort. Not much is known about the actual gameplay, but their aim is to “evolve immersive storytelling in games.”
Players will control a supernatural detective already knee deep in the investigation of a kidnapped boy. His leads take him to a rural mountainous area where he finds the mangled corpse of one of the men responsible. From there his goals will be uncovering the weirdness of the area, and finding the titular Ethan Carter. A brief teaser trailer can be found below.
The Astronauts formed in October of 2012, and is mostly composed of industry veterans from People Can Fly. We may not know much yet, but these guys are saying all the right things to get me excited. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is scheduled for release later this year on PC.
