Yesterday brought sad news for the gaming industry as THQ had its assets broken up and acquired by various other companies. While the majority of the big name IPs and studios were able to find a home, the WWE license had yet to have a confirmed destination.
A rumor has surfaced that Take-Two, the parent company of the popular 2K Sports, has acquired the rights to the WWE series. 2K Sports is currently only producing the NBA 2K & MLB 2K series, and adding the WWE brand would be a fantastic addition for the company.
Many thought that EA SPORTS would be the company that acquired the license, but Take-Two apparently had negotiations with THQ outside of the auction hearings. Keep in mind that nothing is confirmed at this point, but we’ll have more news on this subject once an official announcement is revealed.
What do you think about 2K Sports possibly being behind a WWE title? Be sure to let us know what you think by leaving us a comment below, or discuss the WWE series in our forums.
Thanks, IGN.
