Halo 2’s PC servers will be taken down on Feb. 15, according to a blogpost by Halo Waypoint community manager Jessica Shea.
As expected, the news is due to the lack of players on the PC servers.
“We’ve been monitoring the population for months, and it’s been peaking consistently at approximately 20 players or less,” Shea shared on the Waypoint blog. “Those that own this game can continue to enjoy Multiplayer over LAN after that date; however our network services will be turned off at that time. We love you, Halo 2 PC, and you will live forever in our hearts.”
It was a sad day when the Xbox Live servers for the Xbox version of Halo 2 were taken offline in April, 2010. Somehow, I don’t see a resurgence of players in wake of this news a la Demon’s Souls. Are you one of the 20 or so people still playing Halo 2 on the PC? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments below or over at our forums.
