Details regarding Bungie’s upcoming game Destiny have not only been leaked once, but twice, and according to the official Game Developer Conference website, Bungie plans on striking first this time around. A list of panel members was posted on the GDC website. Heading up the panel will be writer/director Joe Staten and art director Christopher Barrett, both 11-year veterans of the company.
The hour-long lecture titled “Brave New World: New Bungie IP” has a pretty in-depth description and should give attendees a good idea what to expect.
Two decades of success in the gaming industry is no small feat, but after ten years of Halo, Bungie found themselves faced with a tremendous challenge: to build a whole new world, filled with even more amazing mysteries, places, creatures, and opportunities for player investment. For the first time ever, Bungie creative directors will discuss their world building techniques, from concept to production. Attendees will walk away with key insights into Bungie’s battle-tested design process. They’ll get a glimpse of the brave new world that has been built, a place where the next ten years of great Bungie adventures will unfold.
We don’t expect too much in the way of revelations, as the goal is to give attendees the chance to “learn about Bungie’s world building pillars, and see how these were put to use to create Bungie’s next great universe of games.”
It’s unclear whether or not Activision and Bungie will formally announce Destiny before then, but it would be awfully strange not to. Stay tuned for more details.
