Rumor: Xbox Live voice chat being replaced by Skype

When Microsoft finally releases its next piece of hardware, we might be communicating through Skype as opposed to the current voice chat setup. According to, a “person familiar with the matter” has stated that the gaming giant would be “consolidating all their communications technology around the Skype platform.”

This isn’t that big of a jump in logic, as Microsoft bought Skype back in 2011. ¬†Combine all this with a recent job listing which describes joining a team, “responsible for Skype in the living room (broadly the home), across various devices but with a focus on the large screen and the next generation of Xbox,” and you have a decent amount of evidence. Of course, this is still a rumor, and hinges on CVG’s anonymous source. We’ll keep you updated.
