‘Defiance’ beta event begins Jan. 18

The upcoming MMO Defiance will begin its first beta event on the PC at 8 a.m. PST January 18th, and end on the 20th at 9 p.m. PST. What is Defiance? That’s a bit complicated.

With the flood of entries in the genre over the past decade, developers have to be pretty ambitious to get any attention, and Defiance is trying to be just that. The story behind the game is set to be intertwined with a television show bearing the same name. In the show, an alien race known as the Votans have recently come to Earth, seeking refuge after their planet was destroyed.

Political turmoil erupts as they try to intermingle with humans, and live side by side. Players in the MMO will then take the role of Ark Hunter, which is basically a bounty hunter who collects alien technology. The two stories won’t necessarilly be directly connected, but they will exist in the same world.
