‘Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm’ to add a leveling mechanic to multiplayer

Blizzard have posted a preview of an upcoming beta test for Starcraft 2 expansion “Heart of the Swarm,” the preview focuses on a big news feature being added: leveling.

Beta players will be testing a new leveling mechanic which is being introduced to multiplayer with this expansion. Experience will be earned for something as simple as building a unit, with bonus XP being awarded for things like winning your first match of the day.

Each race will have to be leveled up independently, with the level cap being 20. Rewards for reaching new levels will come in the forms of portraits and decals, so players can show off their levels with more than just a number next to their player portrait. Blizzard says they are “pushing to get as many players as possible into the beta to try out the new Leveling system,” so keep an eye on your email inbox!

What do you think of this new system, does it have you more interested in Starcraft 2 multiplayer or is the whole thing still a bit too daunting? Let us know in the forums or comments.
