I never thought I’d see the day where major industry updates were delivered through Facebook and Twitter, but that practice is becoming more and more common. Take, for instance, today’s announcement from Joe Madureira, creative director of the Darksiders series and co-founder of Vigil Games, which states that Madureira is leaving Vigil.
Said Madureira:
Farewell and best wishes to all my brothers and sisters at Vigil Games! After 7 long years and 2 hit games ( Darksiders BABY! ) I’m afraid the time has come for me to move on to new adventures. I could not be more proud of what we achieved, or the awesome people who helped build up this studio. I can safely say Vigil’s future is in very good hands, so expect only awesomeness down the road. This feels surreal…I miss the place already.
As many commenters on the Facebook post have pointed out, Madureira was the driving force behind the series’ unique art style, and it will be interesting to see if the style of potential sequels (there are four horsemen in Revelations, after all) remains the same.
Madureira also tweeted, “So long @Vigilgames @THQ. Thanks for all the memories. @Darksiders was definitely a career highlight. Keep on kicking ass I’m a fan for life!”
As of now, according to Eurogamer, Madureira will resume his life as a comic book artist, and will discuss what’s next for him in the coming months.
