New Xbox dashboard update removes support for Facebook, Twitter

If you’re one of the three people on Xbox Live who used the integrated Facebook and Twitter apps from the console’s dashboard, you may be disappointed once you run the next firmware update. Both of these social network apps have been removed completely, with Microsoft claiming that this move is to “streamline” app functionality.

Twitter and Facebook integration were announced at Microsoft’s E3 2009 press conference by internet celebrity Felicia Day (Doctor Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, The Guild), and rolled out in the November dashboard update of the same year.

Not all is lost though. With new web browsing support on the 360 coming in the form of Internet Explorer, Microsoft is encouraging users to find their social fix there. So, uh… there is that.

Alternatively, you can still update your status and tweet from the other 73 billion devices available in the world.
