In an interview with the PlayStation blog, Hideo Kojima reflected on twenty-five years of Metal Gear. After reminiscing about Solid Snake and his pals, the series creator talked about the future of his studio. Specifically, Kojima referenced the newly designed Fox Engine.
“The Fox Engine is nearly finished,” said Kojima, “but the only way to be sure it works is to create a game at the same time and improve the engine with our tools as we go along.”
That game has been code named “Project Ogre,” which many speculate to be Metal Gear Solid 5. Kojima also mentioned that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was supposed to fulfill this test purpose, but with Platinum Games taking the developmental reigns last year, Revengeance was transitioned to Platinum’s engine.
Now, though, with Project Ogre in development, Kojima seems confident that the world is ready to see his new engine. He stated that, “although the Fox Engine is not finished, we are ready to show what it can do… on August 30th in Japan.”
