Main Characters & Details Revealed for Gears of War: Judgement

A few days ago, an announcement broke that revealed the next title in the Gears of War franchise.  Now that Gears of War: Judgement has been announced, we’re here to bring you information regarding the main characters of the game.

Initial speculation of the covers, seen below, was that Marcus Fenix was to be the main character.  However, the official covers for Game Informer’s July issue confirm that Baird and Cole will be starring in the prequel.  Along with the reveal of the main characters, the first details about the title have also slipped out.

Gears of War: Judgement will be developed mostly by People Can Fly, who worked on Bulletstorm.  However, Epic Games will be keeping a hand in the development to ensure that it keeps the “Gears quality”.  The new installment in the franchise will also feature a new mode entitled, “OverRun Mode”.  The mode pits COGs against Locusts and vice versa, but sounds very similar to Beast Mode and Horde in Gears of War 3.

Multiplayer is said to be “class-based” with each soldier or character representing certain traits or weapons.  We’ve compiled a list for you below of each known class:

Baird / Engineer
Weapons
: Gnasher & Blowtorch (repairs damaged fortifications)
Special abilities: Sentry turret

Cole / Soldier
Weapons: Lancer & Boomshot
Special Abilities: Deploy ammo crates & toss ammo to engineer to for infinite blowtorch ammo

Sofia / Medic
Weapons: Lancer & Snub pistol
Special Abilities: Gas grenade / toss grenade at downed allies to revive them

Garron / Scout
Weapons: Longshot, Snub pistol, & Beacon grenade
Special Abilities: Climb perches for better sniping leverage

The class-based multiplayer is at least for OverRun mode, but we have not heard confirmation for the rest of the multiplayer.  It’s an interesting take on the Gears franchise, but we’re excited to see what a new develop can bring to the series to keep it “fresh”.

What do you think about Baird and Cole being the main characters for Gears of War: Judgement? What’s your opinion on the class-based multiplayer?  Be sure to let us know what you think by leaving us a comment below, or discuss Gears of War: Judgement in our forums.
