I can already see it; you’re probably thinking to yourself: “Why are there no Tom Clancy games on Facebook but the hundreds of various casino games are everywhere?” Allow me to bring the good news, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Commander is aiming for a Spring 2012 release on the social media mammoth. Spearheading the upcoming game are Ubisoft (publisher) and the folks at Loot Drop, an indie dev studio formed in December 2010 featuring talent like award-winning developers John Romero and Lead Designer Brenda Garno Brathwaite.
Typically the Ghost Recon franchise is noted for their preference towards the hardcore gaming market, but Ghost Recon Commander plans on allowing casual and newcomer fans of Facebook games to get in on the action. As well as releasing on the web, you can count on seeing Ghost Recon Commander on mobile devices (though exactly which were not clarified in the official press release) for on-the-go warfare.
Taken directly from Ubisoft’s press release, here is a synopsis of what you can expect once the game goes live:
In Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Commander, players will be able to develop their own “Ghost,” an elite Special Forces operator utilizing stealth, firepower and exciting near-future technology to take command of the battlefield against impossible odds. Following Ubisoft’s companion gaming strategy, players are encouraged to play the game before jumping into Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier™, which will be available on consoles May 25th and Ghost Recon Online, available later this year on PC. By playing Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Commander, players will be able to unlock exclusive items and bonuses giving them a head start when playing Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Ghost Recon Online.
