The rumors for next-generation consoles have slowed down recently, but it looks like they’re about to pick back up. While Sony has already stated that they won’t be announcing a new console at E3 this year, they never mentioned anything about releasing a system next year.
Thanks to a report by Kotaku, a rumor is surfacing that the Playstation 4 is codenamed “Orbis” and is launching in holiday 2013. The source within the actual article hasn’t been named, but Kotaku promises that it’s from a “reliable source” that has “been correct” before.
Venturing to this link will show a portion of the “Dev Net” website that Sony uses. There’s no real mention as to what “Orbis” is within that site, but it’s interesting to see that it at least does show as a valid URL on the website.
Even though there’s a good bit of “information” in the article, we’re still classifying this one as a rumor. There’s no doubt that Sony and Microsoft are both looking forward to launching their next-generation system, but nothing is concrete until it comes from either of their mouths.
What do you think about the possibility of the Playstation 4 launching in holiday 2013? What features would you want to see out of Sony’s next console? Be sure to let us know what you think by leaving us a comment below, or discuss the Playstation 4 in our forums.
