LittleBigPlanet Karting Officially Announced & Receives Trailer

LittleBigPlanet has been the flagship series for the “Play, Create, Share” title that Sony has built for user-created content titles.  The series knocked the socks off of most individuals with the launch of LittleBigPlanet 2.  The ability to create complex levels and even games within LBP 2 is still something to marvel at today.

With the fairly solid success of LittleBigPlanet, Sony and United Front Gaming have announced this morning a new spin-off in the series.  Leaked a few months back, LittleBigPlanet Karting has been confirmed by Sony as being a real thing.

The game will feature user-created tracks as well as a story that follows Sackboy trying to save the world.  Below, we’ve included a snippet of the press release that provides additional details for the game:

“The franchise that has seen more than six million user-generated levels and games shared online via PlayStation®Network is now revving the engine once again as Sackboy™ returns in a completely new, fast-paced karting campaign to save the Craftworld universe. InLittleBigPlanet Karting, players can jump into vibrant 3D game worlds with Sackboy for intense classic kart racing and ultra-competitive arena battles. More adventurous karting expeditions are just as accessible, including objective-based missions, boss battles, and mini-games. On the create side, players can customize their Sackboy, karts, and much more. The new level editor tools will allow players to construct far more than just kart racing games, as they can design their own karting experiences with the ability to make their own game rules, weapons, and tracks that break free from the constraints of a traditional racetrack allowing the imagination to run wild in a completely open environment. Players will also be fully able to share this content with others around the world through PlayStation Network providing access to what promises to be millions of LittleBigPlanet Karting experiences created by the community.”

It’s great to see the game get officially announced and detailed at this point.  With the game being developed by United Front Games, it’ll be interesting to see what similarities come from the Modnation Racers series for the Playstation 3.

What do you think about the first official details for LittleBigPlanet Karting?  The game is currently slated to launch for the Playstation 3 before the end of the year.  Be sure to let us know what you think by leaving us a comment below, or discuss LittleBigPlanet Karting in our forums.
