In a Twitter conversation between Ed Boon (co-creator of Mortal Kombat) and Sid Shuman (PlayStation social media/community guy, former GamePro senior editor) regarding D.I.C.E 2012, Mr. Boon may have just confirmed what all fighting gamers were hoping for: a sequel to 2011’s Mortal Kombat reboot. For those who don’t know, D.I.C.E (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) is a summit where top video game designers from all over the world get together and discuss industry insider stuff. Things like “Where are we headed? What is the future?”, among many other questions all get answered. Now, while this doesn’t confirm the game will have any information to share with the public, it certainly shows that a new Mortal Kombat is still on the mind of NetherRealm Studios. Below is the tweet itself via screenshot:

Alright, I know what you’re thinking. “Well, DUH, of course Mortal Kombat is going to get a new game.” It would be silly not to capitalize on the success of last April’s makeover, and I emphatically agree. However, if there’s one thing I have learned being a Mortal Kombat fan and following Mr. Boon on Twitter for sheer entertainment value, sometimes he says things to get people to do exactly what I’m doing right now: speculate. Either way, I’m on the edge of my seat and I’m looking forward to seeing some more news on a new Mortal Kombat bloodbath.
