Those of you who woke up today anxious to download the first DLC pack for Gear of War 3 better have some strong coffee. Epic Games has announced that its first downloadable content, The Horde Command Pack, would not be releasing today due to a recently discovered technical problem in the final testing stage.
The news arrived late last night in a statement on the Epic Games forums by community manager Raczilla:
The scheduled Horde Command Pack release for Gears of War 3 is temporarily delayed due to a technical issue. We apologize to those of you who are anxiously awaiting to play. We know this is disappointing news as we’ve seen a lot of posts today showing excitement for this content. We have folks working around the clock to resolve this issue ASAP so you can all play and enjoy the Command Pack.
Gears of War 3 lead producer Chris Wynn also commented on the official Gear of War website saying, “We are working as fast as we can to identify the issue and get the package out to all of our fans.”
The Horde Command pack is slated to add new maps and character’s to Gears 3’s Horde mode and will cost 800 Microsoft points ($10) when it’s released. However, those who purchased the $30 season pass will be able to download it for free. Epic has yet to announce a future date for the DLC’s release, although I wouldn’t expect it to be in more than a week or two. We’ll be sure to to keep you updated, and in the mean time, feel free to leave your thoughts on the delay in the comments below or in the forums.
[UPDATE] Well that didn’t last long. After reports this morning that the Horde Command Pack, the first DLC for Gears of War 3, was delayed due to a technical issue, lead producer Chris Wynn sent out this tweet confirming that the pack is now available.
