Inverted Gaming: A Social Crisis

Being left-handed and having played on a baseball team during high school, I know all the jokes. If you’re not right-handed your wrong-handed. Prefers water over Gatorade – must be a lefty. I could go on, but I wouldn’t want to risk offending our left-handed readers, as they’re the only ones in their right minds any way.

The same thing might be said for inverted gamers. Maybe your one of them, maybe you know one, but there’s no denying that the “that guy” moniker in gaming exists largely for these nutters. Attempt to play in a game of co-op with them, and you’re only reinforcing habit that continues to claim countless lives each year. As a new video/mock public-service announcement, courtesy of internet comedic genius Freddie Wong explains, “Friends don’t let friend play inverted.”

Jokes aside though, I’ve played a number of flight simulation games and turning on inverted controls does have it’s advantages. Things only get complicated when I’ll play a shooting game with someone in the same room and they want the aiming controls to be inverted all the time. Things can go downhill pretty fast, and sometimes it’s hard to figure out how to pull up.

What do you think about playing inverted? Are you or a friend just wired differently? Let us know in the forums or comments below.
