Call of Duty Franchise Overtakes Halo in Xbox 360 Sales

That’s the math according to the latest VGChartz sales report.

Call of Duty: Black Ops has been the most popular game on Xbox Live since its release and sales numbers seem to follow suit. With sales of 13.07M units it’s also the best-selling game in the Xbox 360’s history. Adding up the sales of the entire COD franchise on Xbox 360 brings that number to a colossal 45.84M units.

Halo 3, meanwhile is the No. 3 best-selling game on Xbox 360 with 11.34M units sold. A sales analysis of every Halo entry on the 360 brings that number to just 28.09M sales – still spectacular, but much diminished under the footprint of the modern military first person shooter ahead of it.

With Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary due to ship a week after Modern Warfare 3, and Halo 4 expected in Q4 2012 along with what is surely to be another Call of Duty, it will interesting to see how the top spot shapes up.
