Trophies are coming to the Playstation 3, and users are eagerly anticipating firmware 2.40. We received news this morning that the upcoming firmware update will not support retroactive trophies. What that means, is that you will essentially have to start over your games in order to earn the trophies. Why is this a good thing? Saves are so abundant on the Playstation 3, that if the trophies were to read off of saved data, then everyone would have this incredibly massive score.
PS3fanboy backed this up by stating, "Developers will have to choose whether or not to include trophy support. However, if any previously released titles get patched (a la Super Stardust HD), players must essentially start anew to get any trophies. Trophies will not be retroactively awarded based on save data."
We’ll keep you updated on the latest firmware as more information is revealed.
