The party chat in Xbox Live is an awesome feature, but has left gamers somewhat mixed on how it's changing the "teamwork" aspect of gaming. Being able to jump into a party with a bunch of friends all playing various games is great, but what about the players you're in that multiplayer game with?
There's no doubt that it makes it easier on you to not hear that crazy guy in the game shouting everything that comes to his mind, or the kid that wants to scream every obscenity possible. However, the days of meeting new Xbox Live friends through random games seems to have dwindled. Not to mention that if you jump into a game by yourself, the chances of most people already being in a party and ignoring you is very high.
News today has hit the internet that Microsoft will be disallowing the use of the party chat if you're in a multiplayer game of Modern Warfare 2. If a player is in a party chat prior to joining a game, a dialogue box will appear asking the player to join the game chat channel or they'll be removed from the multiplayer session.
The reason for doing this has to center around the reason of gamers using the party chat to tell xbox live friends where enemies are, or to help them in sudden death moments. While party chats are a great way to chat with all of your friends, there's no doubt that they're used to get an unfair advantage in games as well.
With Modern Warfare 2 being the first game to implement this, you can expect more games to adopt this feature in the very near future now that Microsoft has given them the option.
