Rockstar’s payday keeps getting bigger, it seems.
Grand Theft Auto V, the developer’s open-world crime opus, has shipped 32.5 million copies, according to sales tracking firm NPD Group. The game is also within reach of breaking the record for best-selling console game of all time.
That record is currently held by Mario Kart Wii at 34 million units, so it certainly seems possible – maybe even likely – that the game will shatter that record before too long.
Hailed as one of the best games of 2013, Grand Theft Auto V shipped in September for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to near-perfect review scores and insane commercial success, raking in $1 billion in just three days.
Do you think GTA can break the record? Are you one of the few who’s yet to pick the game up? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments.
