The Last Door
Often described as “the game H.P. Lovecraft would have made,” The Last Door definitely deserves its reputation. This series of episodic browser-based adventure games plays like a conglomeration of Lovecraft’s short stories, complete with mysterious suicides and unimaginable horrors. Developed by The Game Kitchen, a young indie studio based in Spain, The Last Door is not the type of game to have dismembered bodies or the like, instead choosing to let a general sense of unease grow as you explore. The pixelated visuals aid in this affect, making everything in the world just a little more abstract and difficult to understand. Mix in a wonderfully enchanting soundtrack, and The Last Door becomes the perfect game to play alone on a rainy night. The first two episodes can be played for free, with the third only requiring a small donation.
