Sometimes it pays to be late to the party.
Confirmed today via Twitter by tipster lifelower is the fact that an Injustice: Gods Among Us game of the year edition is in the works for a total of seven platforms. The game will release on the three consoles it first released on (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U) as well as PC and PlayStation Vita…and the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, in a bit of a surprise move.
That means anyone who sat out the game in its first round – perhaps waiting for a re-release just such as this one – will not only be able to pick it up with, most likely, each new fighter released via DLC included on the disc, but on your shiny new next-gen consoles as well. Whether those versions include anything besides a graphical tweaking – and, for that matter, whether Injustice will actually garner any GOTY awards in a year that’s seen games like BioShock: Infinite, Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us hit store shelves – remains to be seen.
Injustice: Gods Among Us, released in April, is the latest fighting game from Mortal Kombat creators NetherRealm Studios. Injustice puts players in the midst of a version of the DC Universe in which Superman rules the world with an iron fist alongside heroes like Wonder Woman and the Flash, opposed by a team led by other heroes like Batman and Green Arrow (with a few villains thrown into the mix for good measure). The game earned healthy sales and generally positive reviews.
There’s no indication of a release date just yet, but given the fact that it’s coming to next-gen consoles, sometime this holiday season seems like a pretty safe bet.
