It’s official, sort of – Batgirl will come to NetherRealm’s DC Universe fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us as downloadable content, revealed in video of a marketplace snafu that confirms earlier rumors.
A video from YouTube user SFlip shows an entry for Batgirl in Injustice‘s in-game Downloadable Content menu for the low-low price of zero Microsoft Points. The entry appears to have been in error, as it’s since been taken down. Regardless, it does seem to confirm an earlier leak. It’s currently unknown when she’ll be available in the game. This apparent confirmation means that a previous leak revealing Injustice Season Pass characters is currently two for two: The leak claimed the pass would bring bounty hunter Lobo, Batgirl, General Zod (of Superman fame) and Mortal Kombat‘s Scorpion into the mix. Lobo’s already been confirmed as a DLC character and will drop on Tuesday. With half of the characters in the leak proving to be actual content coming to the game, it seems reasonable that there may be some truth to the idea of Scorpion and Zod joining the fray.
In the world of DC Comics, the mantle of Batgirl has been worn by a number of young women, the most notable being Barbara Gordon, the original hero to take the name and the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon. Barbara appeared in the 1966 Batman television series starring Adam West, and most recently became Batgirl again during DC’s New 52 relaunch after more than 20 years as the tech guru and information broker known as the Oracle. What little that can be seen in the video seems to suggest it’s that Batgirl making her way into the game, although it’s possible the game may explore other versions of the character with DLC skin packs.
Batgirl’s inclusion brings Injustice‘s roster total to 26 (24 shipped with the game, plus Lobo). She’ll be the seventh Batman character – alongside Nightwing, the Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Bane and Batman himself – to be included in the game, more than any other DC franchise to be represented (the next closest is Superman with four characters).
Injustice, which released in April, is a fighting game set in a dystopian version of the DC Universe in which Superman rules the world with an iron fist after the destruction of Metropolis and the death of Lois Lane at the hands of the Joker. The Man of Steel is opposed by Batman and a small set of heroes and former villains, setting the stage for all-out superhuman fisticuffs. The game has been generally well-reviewed since release, with an 82 percent favorable rating on Metacritic. Our own review gave it three-and-a-half stars.
