Nintendo of America announced today that long-awaited Pikmin 3 will release on Aug. 4, finally setting a firm date on a game first announced as a Wii U launch title.. The game will be available at retail or digitally at the Nintendo eShop.

In addition to a firm street date, Nintendo revealed a new pink, winged Pikmin for the game. The unit will follow players and carry items in the air.

Pikmin 3 is the latest in Nintendo’s strategy series, in which players control up to 100 plant-like creatures called Pikmin to solve puzzles, defeat enemies and perform tasks. Players will control up to three Pikmin leaders at one time, using the Wii U Gamepad or a Wii Remote/nunchuck combo.
