‘DayZ’ console release nearly certain, in talks with Sony

DayZ standalone

It wasn’t that long ago where the internet appeared to be in love with the popular mod DayZ. The creator of the mod, Dean Hall, stated quite some time ago that he wanted to do a console release after a PC launch. However, we haven’t heard much about the potential console release since that date.

Speaking to The Escapist recently, Hall stated that a console release is “almost certain”. However, it would still depend on how successful the PC launch would be for Dean’s team.

Certainly I think if we don’t, for want of a better word ‘fuck up,’ the PC release then I would say a console port is almost certain. I know a lot of people get really hot and bothered about it. Like, I’m not a console gamer, I’m a PC gamer, but I don’t think it necessarily has to hurt things.

While the game has seen a large success on PC, there’s very little doubt around if console owners would purchase the game if they felt it was “done right”. It seems much more likely that the discussions Dean Hall has had with Sony are around putting it on the Playstation 4, especially with their new policy of making it easy for indie developers.

Would you still be interested in seeing DayZ come to PC and consoles, or have you lost interest in the game? Be sure to let us know what you think by leaving us a comment below, or discuss DayZ in our forums.

When not writing for the site, you can find Dougie on Xbox Live & Playstation Network (Gamertag: AirUpThere06). He plays just about everything, but loves a good shooter with a great multiplayer experience.
