As the new year begins, we start to commend the tremendous efforts of developers from last year. The Independent Game Festival awards take the time to commemorate the games that indie developers have created.
Some of the biggest indie titles from last year such as FTL: Faster Than Light and Hotline Miami are leading nominations. Hotline for Excellence in Audio and FTL for Excellence in Design with both in the running of the Seamus McNally Grand Prize. They’ve also created a new award for Excellence in Narrative with the widely-revered Thirty Flights of Loving nominated.
Other nominations include my Toronto-born Asteroid Base with Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and DrinkBox Studios’ Guacamelee! up for Excellence in Visual Art. Probability 0 developer Droqen’s Starseed Pilgrim and Terry Cavanagh’s Super Hexagon (which I really like, by the way) also up for Excellence in Design.
If you want to see the full nomination list, check out the website and we’ll know the winners during the Game Developer’s Conference this year on March 27. Let us know in the comments if you’ve played any of these games and want them to win or post about it in our forums.
