The recently announced Dark Souls 2 will not be making its way to the Wii U, and according to a petition created by Christopher Marcil, 12,428 people don’t agree with this decision.
From Software and Namco Bandai are currently developing the sequel to last year’s brutal fantasy RPG Dark Souls for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, but a number of Wii U owners want to see the property make its way to Nintendo’s platform. So, following a recent trend, the gamers have started a petition that’s reached over 12,000 signatures.
The goal? 100,000 loud and proud people.
DARK SOULS II can reach an even larger audience by including development for the Nintendo Wii U. As of now, the game has only been announced for development on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
I can see many ways that the Wii U could benefit the game, such as managing inventory on the touch screen without having to obscure the player’s vision on the TV (the Souls games do not pause, so you must be able to pay attention at all times).
The affordability of a Wii U console compared to a gaming PC, and the free online play compared to Xbox Live fees on 360, make the Wii U version ideal for anyone who does not have or want a PS3.
Petitions don’t have that high of a success rate, but who really knows what could happen. If Dark Souls 2 is still a year or so out, we may eventually see it on the next generation of consoles.
