New IPs are always a gamble. Putting a new game onto the market that doesn’t have the rapport of existing series can be costly. However, Bethesda decided to take that gamble when they chose to purchase and publish the expensive Dishonored, developed by Arkane. Whether it was Arkane’s pedigree with the Thief series, Bethesda’s name on the box, or the game’s excellent marketing, but it’s sold well enough to warrant sequels.
Bethesda PR Chief Pete Hines told Destrictoid about Dishonored‘s performance earlier today:
I can tell you that Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations, which is especially cool considering it’s a new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter. We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the #1 selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas. So, we’re very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and Arkane. We clearly have a new franchise.
We loved Dishonored. The news that Bethesda plans to make this a franchise could not be more welcome. Did you play it? Tell us in the comments, or discuss your adventure in our forums!
