Despite rumors and wishes to the contrary, Halo 4 will not be releasing on PC or on any other platform, according to Microsoft.
“Halo 4 was designed specifically for Xbox 360, and while we’re always exploring new ways to expand the franchise and share the Halo experience with as many fans as possible, we do not currently have any plans to port Halo 4 to PC,” an unnamed Microsoft spokesperson revealed to Penny Arcade.
The last time a Halo title was released on PC was in 2004, with Halo 2. Now, four Halos later, mouse-and-keyboard fans are still hoping for a revival.
Depending on the level of interest and support in the gaming community, it’s likely this discussion will continue. While the spokesperson denounced plans to release the game on Windows, if PC fans pledge their financial loyalty to a port, we may see another Dark Souls situation emerge. It should also be noted that 343, new at the development helm, will want as strong a showing as possible in the sales department in order to keep working on future titles. A PC port could certainly help the developer in that regard.
On the flip side, the Xbox 360 has few exclusives left to its brand, and while first-person shooters are the bread and butter of the PC, with the expansion of the game’s availability comes another lost “only on Xbox,” ad campaign. Publisher Microsoft might be looking to keep its exclusives as they are, especially when moving to the next generation of consoles.
What do you think, readers? Is it time to bring Halo back to the W-A-S-D crowd, or would you rather see it stay a 360 exclusive? Let us know in the comments below.
