Over the course of the Call of Duty franchise, we’ve seen a lot. The release of the original Black Ops introduced a bit of time travel in the Zombies mode, but we’ve yet to see it in the core campaign of the title.
Analyzing the list of achievements for Black Ops 2, we noticed quite a few mentions of time travel within what appear to be the campaign achievements. Below, we’ve listed a few of the achievements in question.
- Futurist: Complete all future levels in veteran.
- Family Reunion: There are two futures.
- Back in Time: Use a future weapon in the past.
One of the most popular trailers for the upcoming title showcased a much older version of the main character from the original Black Ops. Alex Mason, who we thought was dead after the ending of the original Black Ops, returns to take part in what we’re assuming are the “missions in the past”.
While it’s not unheard of for a Call of Duty game to refer to an event in the past and then flash back to present day, the third achievement that we referenced is what makes us believe time travel will play a large part in the game. Using a “future weapon in the past” directly implies that we’ll directly have a good bit of time travel be a central focus of the campaign in Black Ops 2.
