Mac gamers unite! As announced on the game’s website, Guild Wars 2, the online fantasy RPG, is making its way to Mac.
The Mac version of Guild Wars 2 will host all the same features and connect to the same network of servers as its PC counterpart. Better yet, if you’ve already purchased the game for PC, you can now play it on both operating systems.
The Mac beta, released at the time of the post, is now available to anyone who has previously purchased Guild Wars 2, and downloading it is as simple as logging into your Guild Wars 2 account and clicking “Download Client.”
The minimum system requirements for the Mac beta are as follows:
- Mac OS®X 10.7.X or later
- Intel® Core™ i5 or better
- 4 GB Ram or better
- NVIDIA® GeForce® 320M, ATI Radeon™ HD 6630M, Intel HD 3000 or better
- 25 GB available HDD space
- Broadband Internet connection
- Keyboard and mouse/equivalent
Theoretically, then, Guild Wars 2 should run smoothly on the following iMacs and MacBook Pros, and, of course, on any subsequent hardware.
- iMac 21.5″, 27″ (Mid-2010)
- iMac 21.5″, 27″ (Mid-2011)
- MacBook Pro 15″, 17″ (Mid-2010)
- MacBook Pro 13″, 15″, 17″ (Early and Late-2011)
- MacBook Pro 13″, 15″, 17 (Mid-2012)
- Mac Mini (Mid-2011)
“Bringing Guild Wars 2 to the Mac is huge for us, because it introduces the game to an entire group of players who are often ignored by game developers,” says “The Guild Wars 2 Team,” in a blog post yesterday. The team also stressed the goal of bringing together as many players as possible, giving everyone the chance to play with their friends and “guildmates.”
Guild Wars 2, for those of you reading this article just because you’re excited about a Mac game, is an online RPG set in a dynamic, fantastical world. The game highlights its “action-oriented combat” and thousands of storyline variations. Guild Wars 2 is currently available on Amazon for $59.99.
