You know how no one was really too excited about a second Final Fantasy XIII game earlier this year? Well, according to Square Enix, we’ll now all be blessed with another title set in the same universe.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be the third chapter in the story of the personable protagonist, Lightning. This time, though, the character will be  able to go through “exhaustive customization,” as well as explore “much more interactive environments.” While most Final Fantasy titles seem to keep both the player and characters on a specific track, this newest game hopes to encourage a bit more freedom in its progression.

Some concept art was shown during the presentation, but the biggest point discussed was the game’s “Doomsday Clock.” Players will be allowed 13 days and 13 nights to save the entire world, so as you’d guess, Lightning Returns will probably be pretty stressful.

Expect what we hope to be the last game in this series next year on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

So… are you excited? Yes, we’re being pessimistic, but do we really need another Lightning this generation? Was this the Final Fantasy title you were waiting for? Just let us know by leaving a comment below.
