Nintendo fans have stuck with Professor Layton through both simple brainteasers and nefarious puzzles, but next year, developer Level-5 will end Layton’s story with one last 3DS game.
The portable title, dubbed “Professor Layton Choubunmei to A no Isan” in Japan, was revealed through a Nintendo Direct presentation hosted earlier this morning. A 2013 window was slapped on the title, but as with most games in the franchise, US and European release dates weren’t discussed.
It was Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino who claimed that this will be Layton’s “last adventure,” but it’s difficult to know what that exactly means. Will the Professor simply hand over his puzzle-solving duties, or is this the true end of the charming franchise? We still have until October before Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask even makes it to other territories, so maybe we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves.
Layton’s had plenty of adventures, but are you ready to see him go? Do you think the franchise will actually end next year in Japan? Let us know down below, or solve the riddle of our forums.
