The success of DayZ on PC, a game that’s still only in alpha, has been nothing short of impressive. If the creator of DayZ has anything to say about it, that same success will find its way onto the Xbox 360 and PS3.
DayZ is set to receive a standalone version later this year, and the success of the game at that point will dictate if a console version comes down the pipeline. Dan Hall, creator of the beloved DayZ mod, stated that, “You’re not going to put it on the consoles if you’re only going to sell 100,000 units or something like that. DayZ will be driven by its PC development and it will innovative on that. And, once we’re at a point, we’ll take it and do a Mac version, 360 and PS3.”
With quite a few new details being confirmed for DayZ later this year, it’s hard to imagine that the game won’t experience more success. It’s seeing a very similar development cycle and success to Minecraft, and we only hope to see what continue for the game.
Bohemia Interactive, developers of the game, have had experience with developing on consoles before. On the original Xbox, the devs released the popular Operation Flashpoint series. With experience and desire, the only thing left to do is wait and see how successful DayZ will be later this year.
