The development cycle for Team Ico’s The Last Guardian has been a tumultuous one to say the least, and it’s been rumored on multiple occasions that the PlayStation 3 exclusive has been canned due to the departure of developer Fumito Ueda. While all the talk has been squashed by Sony, the website Trademarkia now revealed that Sony has not renewed its trademark for this blockbuster title.
With few public comments and almost no media provided to the general public, this news could be the last nail in the coffin of what looked to be an extremely promising title. As the followup to both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, there has been a significant amount of hype behind this tale of boy and beast, but this latest bit of news may dash hopes of its release.
Of course, nothing is confirmed as of yet. This may be simple human error, or maybe there’s an even grander story that will explain why Sony would abandon the trademark. As for now, though, hopes aren’t high.
