“The best offense is a good defense.” “Defense wins championships.” Defense, defense, defense. What’s the big deal? Last I heard you couldn’t score goals on defense.
But… I guess there’s some value. I mean, you can’t score without the puck, so at some point you’ve got to steal it. And it’s nice to stop your opponent from putting one in the net every chance he gets. With that in mind, NHL 13 producer Ben Ross takes us through the latest in EA’s series of gameplay videos. This time, we’re focusing on the “Os” on the chalkboard.

Staying true to the theme of the other gameplay trailers, Ross shows us how the new elements of Hockey IQ, redesigned physics, and True Performance Skating combine to create a more realistic defensive experience. Through a variety of in-game situations, we see smarter poke checks, better body positioning, and more crucial puck control, making defense a bigger part of the game than ever before.
Tell us, hockey fans. Are you excited to use your defensemen more in NHL 13? Or are you tempted to adjust the sliders for a more offense-heavy experience? Let us know in the comments below, or join the conversation in our forums.
