Neilson Data Shows That The PS3 Currently Has More Anticipated Titles This Year

This morning, Neilson has released their list of the most anticipated titles separated by console. Their process is relatively simple as the page explains:

The anticipation level among gaming consumers was derived from leveraging several key consumer metrics, including Awareness and Purchase Interest, into one overall score. That score was then compared to scores from all previous games released on the same platform at the same point in their release cycles, to determine the percentile ranking of the upcoming title (aka the Nielsen Game Rank™).

Consumer data was derived from online interviews of 4,823 male and female active gamers (those who own at least one current generation console and actively play on and purchase games for that console), between the ages of 7 to 54. The timeframe for the data collection was June 3 to June 30, so consumer measures may shift further as marketing efforts heat up over the rest of the year.

Now that we got the technical part out of the way, the results are rather interesting with only three games being in all three console’s top 15 most anticipated: Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2012), FIFA Soccer 13, and NBA 2K13. However, what’s more telling is the amount of anticipation per console. The Xbox 360 averaged a game rank of 83.5, the PS3 averaged an 85.4, while the Wii averaged a dismal 62.7. What this means is that on average, consumers are more excited about the PS3 titles releasing this year than they are the Xbox 360 titles.

What about you, what are you anticipating more, the PS3, Xbox 360, or maybe even the Wii titles? Share your opinions below or in the forums.
