The UFC has grown to be a gigantic company over the past few years. The market had previously seen EA and THQ battle it out with their own separate offerings until UFC bought out Strikeforce. The buyout ultimately forced EA out of the MMA game, and left THQ as the lone MMA title.
With THQ’s UFC title not performing very well from a sales standpoint, EA SPORTS unveiled a shocking announcement at E3 by announcing they have acquired the UFC license. Other than the official Facebook page going up for the game, we’ve heard very little about the game to this point.
EA SPORTS has just made an announcement, however, that the team behind the Fight Night series will be developing their UFC offering. The man who you saw on just about every Fight Night Champion video, Brian Hayes, will be the game’s creative director.
“For me personally, the UFC is something that I grew up with. I remember watching the first UFC events when I was a teenager and it’s amazing to see how they have evolved and flourished. Ultimately, we’re huge fans, we think we have a great team and we are really excited to be taking on this new challenge. We look forward to bringing the UFC video game experience to new heights.”
The series has a great chance with Brian Hayes behind it, and we’re anxious to see what the team can put together going forward. We’re anticipating a great striking game, but we’re hoping to see elements of EA’s original MMA offering make its way for other portions of the game as well.
