The next-generation of consoles is indeed a rather hot topic. Speculation is at an all-time high as the gaming industry wonders whether or not Microsoft and Sony will unveil their next consoles at E3 next week. While you could argue either way if any information will slip out regarding their new systems, a potential major game on those systems just revealed something interesting.
Activision has a strong grasp on the current shooter market, and they’re hoping to do the same with the next generation as well. A job posting on Activision, which has now been pulled, had previously referenced using the Unreal Engine 4 on a game in progress. The significance of this reference? It’s for Infinity Ward’s title on the Xbox 720 & PS4.
The posting included references to “next-gen textures” and senior gameplay engineer having a knowledge of “shooters”. Activision can’t afford to not take advantage of the next generation, and using the Unreal Engine would help them significantly shorten their development cycle. Infinity Ward is also looking to, “focus on large complex destruction sequence simulations and making worlds that are more alive, animated and interactive”.
What do you think about Infinity Ward possibly using the Unreal Engine 4 on a next-gen Call of Duty title? What features would you hope to see out of a future Call of Duty? Be sure to let us know what you think by leaving us a comment below, or discuss Call of Duty in our forums.
