In new that will surely frustrate Xbox Live gamers, it appears that Microsoft is set to incorporate TV-style advertisements in their Xbox Live service. The various TV and video apps within the service would be set to receive anywhere from 15-30 second commercials.
As part of this new deal, Xbox Live subscribers will also be receiving access to stream Manga Entertainment. The report comes from Eurogamer, who also states that Microsoft’s advertisement revenue has risen 142% since 2010.
“With the growth of Xbox Live, advertisers no longer have to choose between digital and TV advertising – we’re offering the impact of TV and the interactivity and addressability of digital in one platform.” – Microsoft’s Ross Honey, GM of Xbox Live Entertainment and Advertising.
It’ll be interesting to see how “tasteful” these advertisements can be incorporated to the system. Current Xbox Live subscribers have been quite upset with the ads that are already in place within the service. One of the major arguments that subscribers have is that they’re paying for a service that still remains littered with ads.
