When you don’t hear about a game for close to a year, it’s usually a sign that things have gone in the wrong direction. Prey 2 showed a ton of promise at last year’s E3, but gamers started to fear that the game was on the verge of being cancelled.
Bethesda released a statement this morning on the status of Prey 2, stating that it’s still in development and will not be cancelled. While the game isn’t being cancelled, it will not meet it’s expected 2012 release.
In the press release we’ve included below, you’ll read the rather harsh set of words “unsatisfactory game development”. However, it’s great to see that Bethesda is so deeply committed to releasing a “AAA” experience for fans.
Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.
What do you think about Bethesda keeping their quality standards with Prey 2 rather high? What do you hope to see out of the game when it launches in 2013? Be sure to let us know what you think by leaving us a comment below, or discuss Prey 2 in our forums.
